Engelhardt has Kickstarter for time trial center

Written by Pterodromae Cahow at 11:07 13/8-2017

Pterodromae Cahow is notorious among Bermudian teams for its dismissive attitude toward tours. In the early days of simulated cycling, at the dawn of the age of Bermuda, the Storm Petrels soared because of their success in one-day races. As time went on, however, the realization that long-term success without riding tours was impossible became apparent to even the most stubborn of men - and then he had to convince manager Pythios. That most stubborn of men, as it turned out, was Lucas Engelhardt.

The rise of Pterodromae Cahow's cobblers is itself a remarkable story. Despite winning many hill races the Storm Petrels were mocked for not having a single true captain. Then Horridge came to lead the sprinting team and Pterodromae Cahow had one captain. After training Amery Styles and Lucas Engelhardt to become the team's main cobblers, it seems as of Pterodromae Cahow has two more riders worthy of the captaincy. This presents manager Pythios with different options, something he has never had before, and therefore it remains to be seen if he can handle that.

Both Amery Styles and Lucas Engelhardt, young and hungry as they are, wanted to ride tours. Styles got his chance early this season in Haute-Normandie, and that tour's third best youth rider did not disappoint with an eighth place overall. When the Volta da Lagoa dos Patos was announced, Engelhardt knew this tour was going to be his, and in the final standings he managed to do one place better than Styles. However, if anyone thought that improving on his team mate's GC finish had satisfied Engelhardt, they were badly mistaken.

After his relatively successful Volta da Lagoa dos Patos, Engelhardt called for a press conference to make it known that he has had enough of Pterodromae Cahow's lack of time trial training facilities. Engelhardt used that press conference to convey that he had secretly transferred all of his winnings to a close friend in Antwerp who has contacts within Vlaanderen Physics. Engelhardt immediately announced a Kickstarter campaign to train at this time trial center before next year's Haute-Normandie, in which he eyes the captaincy. If Engelhardt can raise 60.000 before the sign-up for that tour, he has promised all of his fans that he will appear in that race in absolute top form. If he can achieve that goal, with his determination and with a promise like that, only the second most stubborn of men would bet against Engelhardt succeeding there.

Nice story. I hope he'll meet his goal and takes a podium in next year's tour.
